Petrotrin Sports Club

The Petrotrin Sports Club began in 1945 under Trinidad Leaseholds Limited. The company's management decided to establish places of recreation for employees to boost morale and encourage relaxation through participation in different sporting activities. This has remained the key purpose of the Clubs over the years, especially at Pointe-a-Pierre, where the majority of the workers are based.

Since its beginning with Trinidad Leaseholds Limited, the company has changed names several times, to Texaco Sports Club, to Trintoc Sports Club to its present incarnation as the Petrotrin Sports Club.

Over the last fifty-eight years, the Petrotrin Sports Club has produced some great athletes. Such names as Hasely Crawford, Horace Tuitt, Leroy Prieto, Raymond G. K. Davis, Rawle Francis, Wilton Jackson to name a few.

Some of our basic facilities includes a running track, cricket pitch, football field, hockey ground, tennis courts, pool and snooker tables etc.


UPPER GROUND

The Track area is approximately 400 meters with a slight embankment for cycling and is grassy. It also has facility for 800 meter lanes. The south-eastern side of the field is also used for javelin, discus and shot putt.

The main field is used mainly for cricket and football matches. It is also rented out to companies, churches, schools both large and small and for Family and Sports Day. For Regional and Local cricket the seating capacity is 5000 persons occupying Stands A, B, C, D and E. Approximately 2000 more can be seated on the Cycle track and about 500 on the Bleachers.

There is a Media Derrick which can accommodate both radio and television commentaries. It is situated on the side of the field and has three levels. There is also an Announcer’s/Commentators booth which can house commentators for the press as well as Scorers (for cricket).

You can also find adequate bathroom facilities for both home and away teams located behind the Main Stand (Stand A). There are also bathroom facilities for Referees and Umpires.

The President’s Box can accommodate approximately 120 VIPs seating. Toilet facilities are located under the Stand and at the top towards the back there is an area for catering.


LOWER GROUND

This area is divided into two fields used for hockey on the northern side and cricket/football on the southern side. The ground is ideal for playing league matches and can also be rented out by small groups for cricket, football matches or sports. There is no fixed accommodation so all facilities have to be brought in i.e. chairs, tents, toilet facilities etc.

There is also a small athletic training area around the perimeter of the ground where athletes train.

On the upper most part of the lower ground there are cricket-training nets, which can be used during training sessions in bowling and catching.

Upper and lower ground are rented out for Sporting activities such as football matches, hockey, cricket (wind ball or hard ball - day matches or night matches), Athletic activities – Southern Games, School Sports, Company Sports and Family Days, Chutney Shows, Comedy Shows and Calypso shows etc.


CLUB CAR PARK

Rented out for Carnival Fetes, Chutney Shows, Blockorama, Calypso Shows, Car Shows etc. Can also be used for Flea markets and Bazaars.


UPSTAIRS OF THE CLUBHOUSE

This is rented out for Back In Times Dances, Meetings, as an Examination Center, Dinners, Weddings etc. It can seat approximately the following number of persons per function:
. Examination - 250 persons
. Weddings/Dinners - 350 persons
. Dances - 600-650 persons


DOWNSTAIRS OF CLUBHOUSE

The Club's bar and snack bar facility are situated downstairs. The area is used for playing cards, billiards and snooker or pool. Downstairs of the Clubhouse is also used for after work limes on Fridays. Suppliers also do promotions with giveaways downstairs.
