The Jean Pierre Complex was part 1/phase 1 of a bigger plan - A South West Regional Park (Part two being the National Stadium) and was opened in 1979.
It was named in recognition of the netball player Jean "The Dancing Queen" Pierre.She was called The Dancing Queen becuase of her fastness and eloquence on the netball court and she is undoubtedly the greatest netball player to come out of the Caribbean and one of the best the world has ever seen entirely.
