The restaurant opened for business on Valentine's Day, 14th February 1985 and has been serving its high standard of tasty local menus ever since.

At the Blue Crab visitors rub shoulders with the local community... civil servants, bankers, insurance agents, local entrepreneurs, lawyers, local political heavyweights... everyone feels welcome to enjoy the relaxed lunch time atmosphere.

It is a family run establishment, and on any of its opening days (Monday to Friday) diners can meet and chat with Ken or Alison or any one of their four children.

Ken (or Kenneth) Sardinha and his wife Alison attended the Pratt Institute and Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City then returned home to Tobago to follow their dreams. Ken is a self-taught chef backed by his team of family and staff. He is a guy who simply loves to cook and goes personally to shop around for the best quality foodstuffs, market greens, fresh caught fish and cuts of meat. ALL the ingredients used in preparing his meals for the Blue Crab are purchased locally... food grown in Tobago is by its very nature organically grown free of chemicals, grown in the open on small farms... Ken takes these fresh garden produce and puts them together in combinations which make all the difference to the taste!!!

For Ken insists that not only must the food at the Blue Crab taste excellent, and the colours on the platter compliment each other, but they must look "as pretty as a picture"

Diners at the Blue Crab are never served fussy or complex dishes, no 'nouvelle cuisine' here! Instead the emphasis is placed on serving good sized portions of a variety of local dishes using fresh local produce and seasonal tropical fruits in attractive and imaginative ways.

As you sit out on the tree-shaded open verandah enjoying views of Scarborough and the bay or in the indoor air conditioned terrace taking in the "Heritage Window display" with is artifacts of olden kitchen utensils, sip a fresh tropical fruit juice or ice cold local beer...
