Overview

For over 50 years, the Princess Elizabeth Centre has served as a home for physically handicapped children. The compound contains a modern operating theatre, outpatient clinic, orthopaedic workshop (The Gokool Orthopaedic Workshop) and extensive grounds that can be used for sports and family days etc. The centre also offers primary schooling, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

History of the centre:
On the engagement of Princess Elizabeth (now Queen of England) to Prince Philip, there was a fund raising effort by the T&T Red Cross Society to purchase a wedding gift on behalf of the country. The Princess requested a home for handicapped children as there was a serious polio epidemic around time period, hence the name of the centre. Management of the centre includes the Red Cross Society, Child Welfare League, Nursing Council and the Ministry of Health among others.
