UTT Young Artist Concert Series Ft Jessie McBarrow

Details

On Friday 17th May, 2013 at 7pm, Music Lovers, Musicians and Music Enthusiasts from around the country will gather at the Academy for the Performing Arts to witness the Graduation recital of Pianist/ Composer Jessie Mc Barrow and the debut of “JWave”. In partial fulfillment of the Artist Diploma in Music Performance, all students enrolled are required to publicly perform in their very own recital concert hosted by the University of Trinidad and Tobago under the guidance of Dr. Vertrelle and Professor Hayward Mickens. The University has already hosted several exceptional recitals from the pioneering students at the Academy including, Stephan Hernandez, Janelle and Janine Xavier (Xavier Strings), Ayrice Wilson, Andre Mangatal, Llettisha Sylvester, Coreen Sue Ping Chow and a highly anticipated recital is anticipated from and Neval Chatelal. The bar has certainly been set high by these extraordinary musicians. It is an honor for young artist Jessie Mc Barrow to uphold this standard and demonstrate the phenomenal talent emerging from UTT. Jessie has been poetic and lyrical his entire life; writing since the age of eight while singing in his school choir. He was then introduced to piano at age fourteen by his late best friend Duane Pantin. At the time it was all a hobby, then at nineteen he embraced the "call" on his life to take the art-form seriously, combining poetry with musical chords and melodies to make a positive impact on a society with decreasing love, unity, hope and moral values, this then birthed the artist “JWave”. Since then, JWave has followed his heart by developing his piano, song-writing and vocal skills. He performs whenever and wherever the opportunity arises, consistently quenching the thirst for purely positive and inspirational music. As a keyboardist he works with several bands and artists throughout the country, and was awarded “Best Keyboardist” in the annual Anchorage Pop Music Awards in 2011. As a composer he is not limited to any single genre and has a dynamic way of fusing different styles together and when asked “why”? he quotes, “I’m allergic to normal”. Throughout his musical development he has been influenced by quite a number of artists, among them are Louis Armstrong, BB King, Stevie Wonder and John Legend which is reflective in his songs. Among his numerous compositions, the styles vary between Gospel, Classical, Jazz, Latin, Alternative, RnB, Pop, Techno, Soca, Reggae, Hip Hop and many more. In 2012 JWave was signed to one of the top talent agencies in the region, the Andrews Grant Agency (AGA) under the management of Marlon Grant and will be releasing several singles within the upcoming months. Joining him on stage on that momentous evening are some of the country’s most sought after musicians with decades of experience. The talented lineup includes Aaron Lowchewtung(Guitar), Anton Constantine(Bass), Anthony Woodroffe(Saxophone), Keeron Archie (Drums) Mark Hospedalis(Percussions), Mikhail Salcedo(Tenor Pan), Iziah Kanhai and Patrice Le Quey (Vocals). This concert will have patrons dancing, singing and most of all absorbing the lyrical content as a harmonious ‘wave’ fills every corner of Theatre.
