Bravo! Beethoven


Queen’s Hall, St. Ann’s, P.O.S On Saturday August 25th and Sunday August 26th 2012 at 7:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. respectively the Trinidad and Tobago Youth Philharmonic (TTYP) will host ‘BRAVO! BEETHOVEN’ at Queen’s Hall, St. Ann’s, P.O.S. The concerts will be the culmination of SACO/TTYP’s 8th annual music workshop where approximately 200 students ages 4-24 are being tutored for three weeks of 90 contact hours by a team of thirteen Venezuelan string, wind, and brass specialists, led by Mr. Hemath Jahoor (FESNOJIV, Venezuela) and Mr. Kenneth Listhrop. The repertoire includes performances of some of Beethoven’s timeless works performed by TTYP’s Junior/Intermediate Orchestra, arranged and conducted by young Asst. Music Directors Sameer Alladin and Tracell Frederick, and the Advance Orchestra performing the feature work Symphony No. 5 in C Minor Op. 67 and the 2nd Movement of the 7th Symphony under the baton of Conductor & Music Director Kenneth Listhrop. In honour of our twin islands’ 50th Independence Anniversary, this special celebration will include the performance of the only full symphonic local arrangement of the National Anthem, approximately 200 students performing the celebrative and triumphant “Hymn to Joy”, and local vintage nation building calypsos arranged for full orchestra and choir. SACO/TTYP’s school and community programmes continue to embrace St. Georges College, Barataria, and the Bishop Anstey High School East/Trinity College East (BATCE) where several students have been awarded scholarships for the three intensive weeks in the study of an orchestral instrument. Additionally, SACO/TTYP continues to recognize and applaud the kind generosity of the corporate community namely Atlantic, and The National Gas Company of Trinidad & Tobago. SACO/TTYP premier music education programme engages over 200 students and growing (ages mainly 4-24), the largest in the Caribbean, and the only symphony orchestra in Trinidad and Tobago. Says Founder/Music Director Kenneth Listhrop “The year has been rather eventful with Sunday March 11th “Growing to Greatness” at Queen’s Hall, sponsored by Her Excellency U.S Ambassador Mrs. Beatrice Wilkinson-Welters and Mr. Anthony Welters founders of the AnBryce Foundation, U.S.A, and the Ministry of Planning’s concert at NAPA on Thursday June 28th. Additionally TTYP is presently featured on the in-flight advertisement on Caribbean Airlines and also on Caribbean Passport on TV 6 (Channel 5). We are equally proud of our Junior/Intermediate orchestra, they ensure that TTYP has a future - they are the future! We remain committed to the establishment of an orchestral tradition in Trinidad and Tobago. Our dream is to legitimize our presence through the acquisition of our own music academy.” The orchestra rehearses weekly on Saturdays from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the University School, St. Augustine.” We invite the nation’s music teachers, their students, all primary & secondary schools, churches, and the general public to support our youth as we positively influence their lives whilst building an orchestral tradition in this our 50th Anniversary of Independence. The admission fee is only $150. Tickets are available at the Music Workshop at Bishop Anstey High School East, Trincity (765-2516, 797-1201) 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday until Thursday 23rd August and at Queen’s Hall Box Office daily commencing 13th August, 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. All proceeds in aid of SACO’s property fund.
