AV Hikes: Madamas River & Camp - April 2017

Come with AV Hikes as we head to the ultimate river hike in Trinidad and Tobago, the infamous Madamas River.

There are countless pools to swim, giant boulders to climb, waterfalls to jump and gorges to pass through. The mouth located at Madamas Bay on the North Coast is like a scenic lagoon since the river on reaching the coast loses its turbulence. It is a must for every adventurer to take a dip in the crystal clear water of the river. Despite its magnificence, the expedition of the Madamas River is challenging and should only be attempted by experienced explorers who can swim. It is an exploration not for the faint-hearted or novice hiker since to complete the course can take as long as 12 hours. The journey down the
river involves being in the water for most of the day. To top this off, there is an additional 3 hours to reach the camping location at Paria Bay.

The Journey: Hike & Camp
The expedition consists of four legs and includes overnighting at Paria Bay.

Leg 1: Depart 5.30am Brasso Seco Village to Macajuel Pond {2 hours}
Leg 2: exploration down the Madamas River to the Bay {6-8 hours}.
Leg 3: Hiking from Madamas Bay to overnight at Paria Bay {3-4 hours}.
Leg 4: Return on Sunday morning from Paria Bay to Brasso Seco Village {3 hours}.
Suggested Items needed for the river expedition a torchlight, waterproof bag, and refreshments.

Note: Personal Camp essentials will be transported by boat to Paria, which should include: a tent and a small bag with a change of clothing.
