Boissière House also known as The Gingerbread House is an architectural and historical gem in Port-of-Spain. This stunning house was designed and built in 1904 by architect Edward Bowen as a wedding present for his friend Charles Edward Hamilton Boissière's bride Alice Elegon. He was the eldest son of Eugene Boissière, a descendant of the Boissière family originating from Champs Elysées, France, who was a merchant and cocoa planter. This house was once the home Boissiere family for over 100 years, but is now being used for other purposes.
"The ceilings in the sitting and dining rooms are of gesso work, executed by the same Italian craftsman who did the ceilings of Killarney and the Council Chamber of the Red House. The stained glass windows, with their meandering strawberry vines, in the little study with its pagoda roof, filter the morning sun and cast a soft light into the room. The floor tiles of the study and verandah were imported from England and the large single slab marble steps to the entrance were imported from Italy."
