The Caribbean Conference on Domestic Violence and Gender Equality 2013

We warmly invite you to the inaugural Caribbean Conference on Domestic Violence and Gender Equality in beautiful Tobago. This promises to be part of the most exciting and pioneering event in in the Caribbean region. We hope to bring together participants from a wide range of gender, health, education and social development disciplines from across the region and around the world. There has never been a greater need for us to focus on improving the living conditions for women and girls throughout the world. Violence against women and girls continue to be a global epidemic that kills, tortures, and maims – physically, psychologically, sexually and economically. It is one of the most pervasive of human rights violations. Domestic Violence courtesy www.majiroxnews.com Change is urgently needed, both in policy and public and Behavioral health responses and in clinical services for survivors as well as offenders. We seek to influence governments, health agencies, practitioners and educators across the Caribbean to meet the challenge of improving safety and changing gender norms. Purpose: To engage advocates and professionals from domestic violence, health care and social service and policy makers in critical dialogues that will enable them to use in-depth information to impact their work in terms of practice, research, and policy. Conference Goals . To increase awareness and highlight the problem of domestic violence across the Caribbean region; . To understand the intersection of personal experiences and to inform program strategies; . To introduce and discuss challenges and innovative practices, programs, and partnerships among stakeholder: providers, public health programs, legal systems, social service agencies, domestic violence agencies, faith-based organizations, and advocates, for implementation of interventions and treatment for victims/survivors and offenders; . To build strategic alliances across the region and internationally, that lead to better identification, intervention and treatment for victims and offenders. Key strengths of the conference are its flexibility and inter-disciplinary approach. The program is designed to be compelling and engaging for a wide range of professionals, from clinicians, public health practitioners to teachers, sociologists and psychologists. And inclusion of Trinidad and Tobago's culture will be a key element of the conference program.
