New Olympic Weightlifting Club - Opening Session

Hi All,

We are starting an Olympic Weightlifting Club in Maraval, Port of Spain. The key is to help individuals learn the essential techniques in the weightlifting, provide training for you to feel stronger in your own body and provide a fun and social environment for individuals to train in. As we progress, we hope to have athletes competing. 

The club will train every Friday’s from 5.30pm to 7pm and is open to all ages both male and female. This Friday will be our first opening session.


Olympic weightlifting consists of two types of lifts: the snatch, and the clean and jerk. Both are overhead lifts and involve a full body range of motion. The goal is to lift maximum weight at a rapid speed using a barbell.

A lot of people love it, because unlike normal gym training, which is picking something up, squatting, or benching, it is a lot more artistic. The snatch is very technical, and when it's done well, it's a really beautiful thing to watch.

Olympic lifts aren't just good for one part of your body. You'll work your back, arms, and shoulders, too. One of the unique benefits of Olympic weightlifting is the efficiency of the training—you get a full-body workout.

Our coaches are all qualified weightlifting instructors who trained on the USA Weightlifting course and the UKSCA strength and conditioning course.  If you're a sports person then weightlifting is a great way to compliment your training and develop full-body power!
