An Evening of Tea and Readings at Paper Based - 28.10.17

Details

Dear book lovers and friends of Paper Based,

As we swim on the high seas of budgets and stormy weather, we hold fast to the reassurance of a good book, for respite and reward. We love having you with us for the journey, and are pleased to invite you to our upcoming Evening of Tea and Readings, to be held at the Hotel Normandie on Saturday, October 28th, at 4:30 pm.

With five presenters poised to engage and enlighten us, our stage is set!

Fresh on the heels of his gala launch, visual artist Jackie Hinkson will discuss and present slides from The Light In Paint: 50 Years of Watercolours. Frequently described as the quintessential Caribbean artist, Hinkson's body of work illuminates these islands we call home: his own insights are sure to enrich what we behold.

Following the launch of her new novel, Grounds for Tenure, prolific fiction writer and academic Barbara Lalla joins us to read from the book. Described by its publisher, UWI Press, as "humorous, critical and compassionate", Grounds for Tenure spotlights academic life with the incisive warmth we've come to prize from Lalla's pen.

Drawing on his distinguished life in academia and public service, Harold Ramkissoon will be on hand to share passages from My Journey – The Autobiography of Harold Ramkissoon, an autobiography chronicling immense personal success arising from humble, rural beginnings.

We're no strangers to their triumphs on stage: Penelope Spencer and Lylah Persad will raise the Paper Based curtain with readings from their children's literature collaboration, Tales from the Forest. This folklore-oriented storytelling adventure keeps contemporary kiddies of T&T in mind, so expect smartphones and soucouyants to cross paths!

We couldn't be happier to curate these readings for you, our loyal customers and friends: here's hoping we see you at our October event, for books, tea and thoughtful conversation.

Tickets are priced at $120 and include the cost of refreshments.

So that we may comfortably finalize catering arrangements, please confirm your booking on or before Wednesday, October 25th.

Bookings can be made at Paper Based Bookshop, 10 am - 6 pm (Mon-Fri) and 10 am - 4 pm (Saturday), or by telephone: 625-3197 / 734-6091.

Please note that for Tea & Readings ticket purchases, we can only accept cash or cheque.
